NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND (NCLB) REPORT CARD 2010
AS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW
March 2011
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Attached to this letter you will find the NCLB Report Card for Vinalhaven School. We are required by state and federal law to make this information available to you annually. The Report Card gives you some basic information about how the school performed on the statewide assessments in reading, math, science and writing. It also provides a summary of our status in making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and a summary of our teacher qualifications. Additionally, we also publish the names and qualifications of each teacher in the annual Student Handbook..
One test alone does not measure the success of a school or a student. The statewide assessments do allow for school staff and parents to spot trends in the areas measured (reading, math, science, writing) and to look at student performance over time. Obviously these assessments do not measure such equally important skills such as problem-solving ability, hands-on vocational skills, good sportsmanship, school spirit, or any of the other intangible qualities that make us who we are.
I am pleased to report that Vinalhaven School has met AYP as a school district. By the eighth grade , 88% of our students were proficient or greater in reading compared to 68% statewide and 71% were proficient or greater in math compared to 60% statewide. These are scores to be very proud of as a community and reflect the hard work of students, teachers and families. Congratulations, Vinalhaven!
Please feel free to speak with Gloria Delsandro or with me if you have any questions at all about this report.
Sincerely,
Lew Collins
School Superintendent
